The Philips MSX does not check for bad tracks when formatting as a disc. Because I want to know for sure, I set up a test.

First, I've already tested the disc. Format it, no problem, save some to disk, everything is ok.

I then made some scratches on the sensitive layer inside the disc. So you expect an error, because the disk is now physically damaged by me.

I reinsert the disk into my MSX, format the disk, and the message "Formatting Complete" appears on the screen.

So know that you may think the disc is good, unfortunately the disc is defective. He is already physically harmed by me. The Philips disc interface does not check for bad tracks during the formatting process, whereas on a PC it checks each track directly after formatting.

The disk on a PC returns a disk error or signs a track for an invalid track and the track will no longer be used. Not on the Philips.

So, I'm wondering if this problem is only on the Philips MSX. I ran the test on the Philips NMS-8245.

It would be great if someone reading this could do the same test on machines like the Sony or Panasonic MSX Turbo R.
