Last weekend, theMSX Italy Association participated enthusiastically in the Carrara Games 2025, an unmissable event for fans of retrogaming, comics and nerd culture. This edition was even more special for us because it allowed us to discover and share a real gem for lovers of vintage technology: the Videotel Minitel gateway service on MiniPavi.fr and the first Videotel MSX1 terminal, the EMinEX.
Even the new generations are passionate about MSX games!
Many young visitors stopped to play with our MSX and with classic and new titles, including Sentris, developed by some members. Our ambassadors at Gamics Carrara – Alessio Garzi, Max Privrat, Andrea Di Dio, Stefano Roperto and Lorenzo Moretti – had the pleasure of meeting Marco Valeggi from MVVblog, Giusimo89 and the mythical ones Sam Samuele Narducci of Backtothebit, Davide Gatti of Survival Hacking and Mario of Phaze 101.
The stand It was organized by RetroCampus, with the valuable contribution of Carlo Santagostino, secretary of RetroCampus, and Nicola Avanzi, co-sysop of BBS RetroCampus, to whom we owe a huge thank you for the excellent work done!
A connection between digital ages
Thanks to MiniPavi, we had the privilege of delving into the workings of this unique system, which represents a bridge between yesterday's technology and today's possibilities. For those who don't know, the Minitel was an interactive videotex service very popular in France in the 80s and 90s, while the Videotel was its Italian version. The idea of integrating a terminal MSX1 with this technology it is simply fascinating and shows how much our beloved MSX standard still has to offer.
MiniPavi and the new page of the MSX Italia Association on Minitel
MiniPavi was virtually present with us at theexpoGamics 2025 which took place in Carrara, Italy, thanks to theMSX Italy Association, who presented the service Minitel (Videotel in Italy), accessible with the service code MSXITALY (in Italian) on MiniPavi.
This was possible thanks to the development of the creator of MiniPavi (GitHub: MiniPavi), Jean Arthur Sevilla, who collaborated with Andrea Di Dio to tests of an MSX modem (NMS1250 with ESP8266 Zimodem board with hardware flow control) with the aim of expanding the number of modems compatible with EminEx, the Minitel terminal for MSX1 (GitHub: EMinEx).
For the original modem design (on ESP01), we would like to thank Dromorobo for his contribution (GitHub: MSX-wifi).
This is a simple service that introduces the association and offers a live dialogue (based on the mini chat service) in Italian, dedicated to discussions about computers MSX! A novelty that allows to connect the community even more and to promote the exchange of knowledge between enthusiasts.
🔎 Find out more: use the code MiniPavi “MSXITALIA” to access the service directly!
Conclusions: Gamics, a success for the MSX Italia Association
The Gamics Carrara 2025 It turned out to be once again an extraordinary event, full of meetings, discoveries and sharing. Our participation strengthened the bond between the MSX community and the world of retrocomputing, demonstrating that nostalgia can transform into innovation.
Special thanks to MiniPavi, RetroCampus BBS and to everyone who visited our stand! 🚀
