I LOVE most of the new MSX releases. Be it MSX1, MSX2 or higher. Some things made today would have been simply unthinkable back then.
But when I play old titles, I'm mostly talking about Konami, Microcabin, T&E Soft, Falcom, Compile titles, they had something special, a unique and unmatched feeling.
Even today I could spend hours just listening to the soundtracks of those games.
Many times I have asked myself what those programmers could have achieved today with the means we have today and without the pressure of a release date to meet.
Today some of our old “heroes” showed up again.
I'm referring to Nitta from Microcabin, TECHNOuchi from Konami, Tokihiro Naito from T&E Soft…
Today the MSX is experiencing a second youth with new high-level titles, fairs and expensive DevCons, Nishi at work on the new MSX3 and more.
Here, Nishi.
He said that the “focus” of the new MSX3 (if it ever sees the light of day…) will not be videogames.
Too bad that if you even hope to sell more than a handful of cars, that's what you have to focus on...
It's the software that sells the cars and not the other way around. Always has been..
If I were him, I would get in touch with these historic programmers, I would set up a nice “Dream Team” with the task of creating the Killer Application for MSX3….
Then while we're at it, I would contact:
Falcon
Small but still very active company thanks to the sagas of Ys and “The Legend Of..” composed of true video game lovers. Think that the current president is a former Falcom fan!..just to say!
What would I ask him?
A new Ys of course! ![]()
Fill it out
A few years ago Masamitsu “Moo” Niitani came back to life. Former president. Out of the game for a long time, but the idea could intrigue him and maybe he still has some connections with his old programmers….
What would I ask?
Aleste, what else? [Cit.]
Maybe that Aleste3 recently developed and published by M2 for Gamegear?
Microcabin
Aside from the musician Tadahiro Nitta, I don't know if there's anyone left from the old team. We should hear from Him..
What would I ask?
Probably an Illusion City 2 or a new XAK chapter.
T&E Soft
Tokihiro Naito recently released the demo version of his new cross-platform (including MSX2) game XeGrader.
Is he warming up his engines for something bigger?…maybe he gets the urge back… ![]()
What would I ask?
Definitely a new chapter of Laydock or maybe Undeadline 2.
And Konami?…no, Konami, at least the one we knew, is commercially “dead” years ago and I don’t think there is any room for maneuver..
But…maybe…Kojima…. ![]()
In that case, what would I ask?
But do I REALLY have to answer? ![]()
On a musical level I would also involve Kazuhiko Naruse known as naruto2413.
I think he is one of the best musicians around, definitely my favorite in terms of melodic taste.
It's still active.
He participated in Caravan Boomer (MSX2) and is currently involved in the Concrete Heart project, an RPG also for MSX2 that should see the light in 2025.
Here you can find some of his compositions:
Ok, I've had my little flight of fancy.
What do you think?
